Welcome From Morenci Area Schools Superintendent

On behalf of Morenci Area Schools, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year! The success of our students is our number one priority and we look forward to the joys and challenges that the new year brings. Young people today experience a great deal of pressure to succeed and many pressures that could prevent them from being successful. At Morenci Area Schools it is our privilege to work with our families and community to provide an environment for our students that will encourage, challenge, nurture and help to shape their future.
Morenci Area Schools is not brick and mortar, it is people. People who care about their community and care about our future. Morenci is made up of hardworking business leaders who give to support our students. It is committed civic leaders who work to make this a safe and healthy place for our students to live. It is caring teachers who are dedicated to student learning. And, most of all, it is our families and their students whom we are here to serve.
As we look forward to the school year, we look forward to sharing in this great work with you. Working together we will make a difference. Working together we will shape the future for our students, our community and beyond.

Morenci… a great place to live, a great place to learn!

Sincerely, Superintendent
Michael J. Osborne, Ph.D.

Welcome!
On behalf of the staff at Morenci Middle/High School, we’re glad you are visiting our website. We have worked hard to include elements that our parents, staff, and students will find useful and important. The result is a wonderful communication resource for families, volunteers, and visitors to Morenci Middle/High School. Take some time to look through the site and be sure to visit it often, as it will be updated regularly.
A lot has been happening at Morenci Middle/High School recently. We have worked diligently to revise and implement a new student handbook, which I would encourage you to take the time to read over carefully. The handbook is accessible on our website along with links to other useful tools such as HAC, a website that parents can utilize to check on their child’s grades and other items.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
GO BULLDOGS!!

Sincerely,
Kelli Campbell
Principal

Welcome back to the 2012/2013 school year. Morenci elementary school believes that each child must develop physically, mentally, morally, socially, and academically to become a contributing member of society. We believe that education is a shaping influence in life.
At Morenci Elementary we provide a well rounded education for our students. Our curriculum is aligned to state standards and we are using research based materials to provide our instruction. Saxon math is taught in small increments with continual practice and review.
Open Court is the program we use to teach reading. This program systematically teaches comprehension, decoding, inquiry and investigation, and writing. We supplement Open Court with guided reading and A-Z. We use DIBELS as our assessment for progress monitoring and benchmarking.
Two years ago we implemented WriteSteps. WriteSteps is a comprehensive writing program that addresses all the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations. Students develop an understanding and mastery of the main idea, topic sentences, editing, revising, and paragraph construction at their individual grade levels.  Science, social studies, physical education, music, computers, and library are all part of the comprehensive education we offer.
Our highly qualified staff is dedicated to the academic development of our students. I am expecting great things this year from our staff and students.
    For Kids,
    Mary Fisher, Principal
